Setting Up FreeGuard VPN with Mihomo Party

Mihomo Party is the official GUI client for the Mihomo (Clash.Meta) core, available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It provides a polished, user-friendly interface with full support for modern proxy protocols. This guide walks you through installing Mihomo Party and connecting it to your FreeGuard VPN subscription.

  1. Visit the official website or GitHub releases page.
  2. Download the latest release for your operating system.
  3. Run the installer (Windows: .exe, macOS: .dmg, Linux: .AppImage or .deb).
  4. Launch Mihomo Party after installation completes.

Import Your Subscription

Once Mihomo Party is open, follow these steps to import your FreeGuard subscription:

  1. On the main interface, locate the Quick Start button or navigate to the Homepage input field.
  2. Paste your FreeGuard subscription URL into the input field.
  3. Click Import to add the subscription.
  4. Select the imported subscription from the subscription list.
  5. Click Start Kernel to activate the Mihomo core.
  6. Toggle Enable System Proxy to route traffic through the VPN.

Enable Proxy

Mihomo Party offers two proxy modes:

Toggle System Proxy on the main interface. This routes browser and most app traffic through the VPN.

TUN Mode (Full device traffic)

Enable TUN Mode in the settings to capture all traffic at the network level, including apps that ignore system proxy settings.

TUN mode provides more complete coverage but may require elevated permissions on some platforms.

Select a Node

  1. Navigate to the Proxies panel.
  2. Select a proxy group (e.g. “Auto”, “Select”, or a region-based group).
  3. Choose a specific server from the list.
  4. Use the speed test button to measure latency to each server.
  5. Pick the server with the lowest latency for the best performance.

Tip: The “Auto” group automatically selects the fastest available server based on periodic latency tests.

Tips & Customization

  • Theme: Mihomo Party supports light and dark themes. Switch in Settings > Appearance.
  • Profiles Management: You can maintain multiple subscription profiles and switch between them easily.
  • Rule Mode: Switch between Rule (smart routing), Global (all traffic proxied), and Direct (no proxy) modes.
  • Kernel Updates: Mihomo Party can auto-update the Mihomo core. Check Settings for update options.
  • Log Viewer: Check the Logs panel for connection details when debugging issues.

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Subscription import fails Verify the URL is correct and your internet connection is active. Try switching to a mobile network temporarily.
Kernel fails to start Check if another proxy application is running and occupying the same ports. Close conflicting apps and retry.
No internet after enabling proxy Disable proxy, confirm internet works, then try switching to a different server node.
TUN mode not working Ensure you have admin/root permissions. On Windows, run as Administrator. On macOS, grant network extension permission.
Latency test shows timeout Some nodes may be under maintenance. Select a different server or refresh the subscription.
System proxy not taking effect Restart the kernel or toggle system proxy off and on again. Some browsers may require a restart.
