Privacy Policy for FreeGuard VPN Chrome Extension
Effective Date: 2026.05.12 Last Updated: 2026.05.12
FreeGuard (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains the minimum data handling needed for the FreeGuard VPN Chrome extension.
1. Data Stored Locally
The extension stores settings on your device so it can provide its core features. This may include proxy profiles you create, per-site rules, window/profile bindings, connection preferences, and recent status information. Local settings remain in your browser unless you delete them, uninstall the extension, or use browser sync/export features controlled by your browser provider.
2. Data Sent to FreeGuard
When you use FreeGuard-provided trial or service features, the extension may send limited technical data needed to operate the service:
- An anonymous device identifier for quota and abuse prevention
- Your network IP address as seen by our service for rate limiting and security
- Extension version and selected region or service option for compatibility and connection setup
- Basic transfer counters needed to enforce trial or service limits
We do not collect or store the content of websites you visit, form entries, cookies, passwords, keystrokes, or your browsing history.
3. Anonymous Analytics
The extension may send limited anonymous usage analytics to help us understand reliability and feature usage. Analytics may include broad event categories such as extension open, connection success or failure, settings changes, or product/help link clicks.
Analytics does not include visited URLs, page content, form input, cookies, keystrokes, browsing history, or your real IP address. You can turn analytics off in the extension’s privacy preferences.
4. How We Use Data
We use the data described above only to provide and improve the extension, including connection setup, quota enforcement, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, security, compatibility, and aggregate product analytics. We do not sell or rent user data.
5. Sharing
We share data only with service providers needed to operate the extension, such as hosting, security, proxy infrastructure, and analytics providers. These providers process data for the purposes described in this policy. We do not share data with advertising networks.
6. Retention
Local settings remain on your device until you delete them. Server-side technical records are kept only as long as needed for quota enforcement, abuse prevention, security, troubleshooting, and legal compliance. Aggregate analytics may be retained longer but is not linked to your account or browsing content.
7. Your Choices
You can disable analytics in the extension’s privacy preferences, delete local extension data, or uninstall the extension. You can contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of data associated with your extension identifier where applicable.
8. Changes
We may update this policy when the extension’s data practices change. The Last Updated date shows the current version.
