Setting Up FreeGuard VPN with Karing

Karing is a beginner-friendly, cross-platform proxy client powered by the sing-box core. It supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, featuring both beginner and advanced modes to suit users of all skill levels. This guide walks you through installing Karing and connecting it to your FreeGuard VPN subscription.

Download & Install

Karing is available from multiple sources depending on your platform:

  1. Visit the appropriate source for your platform.
  2. Download the latest version.
  3. Install the app on your device.
  4. Launch Karing after installation completes.

Import Your Subscription

Once Karing is open, follow these steps to import your FreeGuard subscription:

  1. Navigate to Settings from the main interface.
  2. Tap or click Add Subscription Link.
  3. Paste your FreeGuard subscription URL into the input field.
  4. Tap Save to add the subscription.
  5. Tap Update to fetch the latest server list.
  6. Return to the main screen, select a server from the list.
  7. Toggle the VPN switch to start the connection.

Where is my subscription URL? Check your email for the credentials FreeGuard sent after purchase, or visit the Clash Pricing page to subscribe.

Enable Proxy

After importing your subscription:

  1. On the main screen, tap the connect button or toggle the VPN switch.
  2. On first connection, your device will prompt you to grant VPN permission — tap Allow.
  3. The connection status indicator will show “Connected” when active.

Karing uses TUN mode to route all device traffic through the VPN tunnel.

Select a Node

  1. On the main screen, you will see the available server list.
  2. Tap on a server to select it as the active node.
  3. Use the built-in latency test to measure response times.
  4. Pick the server with the lowest latency for the best performance.
  5. Servers are grouped by region for easy navigation.

Tip: Karing’s beginner mode simplifies server selection by automatically recommending the best server for your location.

Tips & Customization

  • Beginner Mode: Karing starts in beginner mode by default, with a simplified interface and auto-configuration. Perfect for first-time users.
  • Advanced Mode: Switch to advanced mode in Settings for full control over routing rules, DNS settings, and proxy groups.
  • Multi-Platform Sync: Use the same subscription URL across all your devices for a consistent experience.
  • Subscription Management: Add multiple subscriptions and switch between them in Settings.
  • Auto-Connect: Enable auto-connect to start VPN automatically when the app launches.
  • Theme: Supports light and dark themes.

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Subscription import fails Verify the URL is correct and your internet connection is active. Try switching networks.
VPN toggle fails to connect Check if another VPN is active. Disconnect the other VPN first. On iOS, check VPN permissions in Settings.
No internet after connecting Try switching to a different server node. Toggle VPN off/on.
Slow connection speeds Run a latency test and switch to the fastest server. Try servers geographically closer to you.
App not available on iOS App Store Use TestFlight to install the beta version. Check the official website for the latest TestFlight link.
Subscription not updating Check your internet connection. Remove and re-add the subscription URL.
