Apple TV VPN Setup Guide (tvOS)
Use the native FreeGuard VPN app on Apple TV for direct tvOS protection. PC sharing is still available as a fallback when you cannot install or use the Apple TV app.
Recommended Setup: Native Apple TV App
Step 1: Install FreeGuard on Apple TV
- Open the App Store on your Apple TV
- Search for FreeGuard VPN
- Install the tvOS app
Step 2: Confirm Subscription Access
- Open FreeGuard VPN on Apple TV
- Sign in or restore your subscription entitlement
- Select an available VIP VPN node
Step 3: Connect and Test
- Tap Connect in the Apple TV app
- Open any streaming app on your Apple TV
- Confirm the app sees the VPN region you selected
Fallback Setup: PC Sharing
Use this method for managed TVs, older setups, or cases where you prefer to route Apple TV through your Windows PC or Mac.
Step 1: Enable VPN Sharing on Your PC
- Open FreeGuard VPN on your Windows PC or Mac
- Go to Settings and enable TUN Mode
- Enable Allow LAN Access
- Note down the IP address and port number (e.g.,
192.168.1.5:7890)
Step 2: Configure Apple TV Network Settings
- On your Apple TV, go to Settings from the home screen
- Select Network
- Choose your Wi-Fi network (the one your PC is connected to)
- Select Configure Proxy
- Choose Manual
- Enter the Server (IP address) and Port from Step 1
- Leave Authentication off unless required
- Select Done
Step 3: Test Your Connection
- Open any streaming app on your Apple TV (Netflix, YouTube, etc.)
- Check if you can access geo-restricted content
- Your Apple TV is now using VPN through your PC sharing setup.
