LG Smart TV VPN Setup Guide (WebOS)

Connect your LG Smart TV to VPN for global streaming content using FreeGuard VPN’s PC sharing feature. Works with all WebOS versions.

Quick Setup Steps

Step 1: Enable VPN Sharing on Your PC

1. Open FreeGuard VPN on your Windows PC or Mac
2. Go to Settings and enable TUN Mode
3. Enable Allow LAN Access
4. Note down the IP address and port number (e.g., 192.168.1.5:7890)

Step 2: Configure LG WebOS Proxy Settings

1. Press the Settings button (gear icon) on your LG Magic Remote
2. Navigate to Network → Wi-Fi Connection
3. Select your connected Wi-Fi network
4. Click Advanced Settings or Edit
5. Find Proxy settings and enable it
6. Select Manual Setup
7. Enter the IP address and port from Step 1

Step 3: Verify Connection

1. Open any streaming app on your LG TV (Netflix, YouTube, etc.)
2. Check if you can access geo-restricted content
3. Your LG Smart TV is now using VPN through your PC!

Magic Remote Compatibility:

• Voice commands and pointer functionality work normally with VPN
• “Hi LG” voice activation continues to function

• Access different regional LG Content Store libraries
• LG Channels may show content from your VPN server location
• Some LG services may be region-locked regardless of VPN

• LG’s AI features continue to work with VPN connection
• Smart home integration through ThinQ app remains functional
• Voice recognition accuracy may vary with different server locations

WebOS Version Compatibility

WebOS 6.0 and Later:

• Proxy settings under Network → Wi-Fi Connection → Advanced
• Enhanced security features may require additional confirmation

WebOS 4.0 - 5.0:

• Look for proxy settings in Network → Wi-Fi Connection → Edit
• Some versions may label it as “Manual Proxy Configuration”

WebOS 3.0 - 3.5:

• Proxy settings may be under Network → Network Connection → Expert Settings
• Older versions may require TV restart after configuration

Troubleshooting LG TV Issues

LG TV can’t connect to proxy:

• Restart your LG TV after configuring proxy settings
• Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network
• Update WebOS to the latest version if available

Magic Remote not working properly:

• This is unrelated to VPN - try re-pairing the Magic Remote
• Hold the “Home” and “Back” buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds

Streaming apps not recognizing new location:

• Clear cache for specific apps in LG Content Store
• Sign out and back into streaming services
• Some apps may take several minutes to detect location change

LG services showing errors:

• Some LG-specific services are region-locked
• Try different VPN server locations
• LG Account services may require original region

Performance Optimization

For 4K/HDR Streaming:

• Use 5GHz Wi-Fi connection for both PC and LG TV
• Choose VPN servers geographically close to streaming service servers
• Ensure your internet connection can handle 4K bandwidth requirements

WebOS Performance:

• Close unused apps running in background
• Regularly clear cache through Settings → General → Reset to Initial Settings → Clear Cache
• Keep WebOS updated for optimal performance
